Christmas holidays are often a popular time for board games, and they are a great way of teaching skills such as turn taking and coping with losing, as well as academic skills such as counting.
If your child received a new game for Christmas, it may be useful to write out a clear step-by-step visual support to clarify how to play the game. This can be studied before the game and then used as a visual reference throughout. Written instructions like this are best suited to children who can read fluently and independently. An example from the Education Authority (NI) is provided here.
