The activities shown in the video below show some activities designed to increase hand and finger strength. The activities have been structured to support children and young people with autism. Visual supports have been used in the cake making task to help with sequencing. All the materials required for the task have been assembled in advance and have been placed in containers, so they are more easily managed. Tasks can be adapted to suit the needs of individual children, for example, if pegging items on to a thin clothesline is too difficult initially, items could be pegged to a sheet of cardboard or a similar rigid material. Some children may find it difficult to use a pipette to wash the farmyard animals, as this requires squeezing the pipette before putting it in to the water and then releasing it. An empty shampoo bottle or washing up liquid bottle could be used as an alternative.
