Today is International Guide Dog Day – a day to celebrate guide dogs and the important work they do for people across the world.
This is an opportunity to remind our children and young people how to behave around guide dogs and all support dogs to ensure everyone’s safety.
According to Guide Dogs NI, 55% of owners say their guide dog is distracted by the public at least once a day. On International Guide Dog Day, guide dog owners across Ireland are asking the public to always ask before petting and never feed the dog in order to keep the dog and handler safe.
This social story can be used as a starting point for discussions around guide dogs and other support dogs and their important role in our communities.
