One of the most useful ways to motivate a child or young person to try new food is to involve them in food preparation.
As mentioned in previous posts, this helps them to become familiar with different textures and smells, and can reduce anxiety around food items. There is no pressure to eat the finished product, but it is a bonus if they do!
Clear visual supports are of course essential in supporting many autistic children and young people in completing tasks. In today’s post, the Centre is giving you two visual supports: one for a jelly dessert and one for carrot soup. The jelly dessert recipe will suit those who are ready for following a few steps in a task; the carrot soup recipe will suit those who are ready for more complex instructions.
