Student passports, sometimes called communication passports, are a tool that allow autistic students to tell school staff all about themselves.
This is particularly important now as students prepare to move to a new class, or school, in September. It is also useful throughout the year if there are substitute teachers or different subject teachers. The passport will let their new teacher know about their learning preferences, likes, dislikes, strengths and challenges. The passport should remain in the classroom so that it is available to all staff who work with the child or young person.
As the student ages, they can adapt their passport to reflect their changing interests and strengths.
