16+ Options: Education and Employment
All delegates wanting to attend this event, including the young person with autism, must register for a place.
Leaving Post Primary School can be an anxious time for families and the young person with autism. For many, knowing what opportunities are available within education and employment settings would reduce some of this anxiety. This would enable the young adult, supported by their parents, carers and educators, make informed choices about which pathway best suits them.
This informative session is open to both the young adult with autism and their parents/carers and educators. It will enable them to hear first-hand the support available in educational and employment settings as the young autistic adult plans to transition out of Post Primary school.
Expected Outcomes
- Have an understanding of further and higher education and employment opportunities for a young adult with autism.

- Hear a first-hand experience of a young adult who has transitioned from post primary school;

AsIAm is my effort to give something back to the AS community, we hope that this site will very much be directed by the needs, views and concerns of those affected by Autism. We hope, in particular, to challenge the public to learn more about the condition and to change their perception of disABILITIES such as Autism.
As a young person living with Autism, I have often found it difficult to find very real, practical information about the condition. From my journeys around Ireland and speaking to so many people affected by the condition this seems to be an issue many have encountered. We hope that AsIAm will not be a scientific journal or a “glossy” account of Autism, rather we hope to give people a place to find practical information and to tell and read personal stories, experiences and concerns. We want our users to start conversations which can be discussed on our forum and set the agenda for our organisation’s work.
